Dear Mr. Honda, I hope you'll find this survey to be as amusing as I did. It's full of comments by people who profess to know more about motorcycle production than YOU do, with endless (and redundant) alterations suggested (and many of their bikes can be found listed in the Classified section, as testimony to their short attention span!) Be assured that there is a silent MAJORITY that has never visited this website, who love their Valkyries just the way they came, have no illusions about your "secret hidden agenda to infuriate your potential customers" (by doing such things as discontinuing the Interstate model....we're sure it was because of poor sales, not malice), and we don't think you should produce a Valkyrie model for each of ten different rider height/weight sizes......in short, it is a FINE machine, don't change a THING!!!!!
Of all the Bikes I have owned the 98 Tour Valkyrie I currently have is by far the best. No model or type I know of gives the best all around ride for everyday Cruising to long distance touring. I often get asked " what year Harley is that' form the untrained passer by, this does not offend me, but adds to the fact that the styling and overall appearance lends to a very well crafted motorcycle. There are design points that could be improved on, 1.Self canceling turn signals 2.Adjustable windshield for rider height ( I did this myself already, but many riders have committed on the feature).3.Six gear....I am always looking for " sixth" the Engine to Trans gearing ratio just begs for it. Then there is the question of the future of the Valkyrie..well I am just like a lot of current owners...and possible future owners....1800 or 2000 cc engine?? fuel injection??? Make it and we will buy!!
I have owned many motorcycles over the years, but the Valkyrie is the best all around street machine. I would like to see more travel in the rear suspension and a larger fuel tank on the standard and a sixth gear overdrive for extended range.
Design/Performance Issues: More focus on performance brake equipment (lines, calipers, shoes, rotors) would be a plus an perhaps reassuring, based on my personal experience. Powder coating should include rear foot peg brackets as a frame component. The flat black paint gets hazy quick. Consider manufacturing a more robust horn, as a factory option with the emphasis on rider safety. Sales/Commercialism: Renewed add campaign is badly needed to appeal to the new generations of Valkyrie riders.
I have two Valkyries, one is a three wheeler and one two wheeler and I love both of them. I was a Harley rider for a very long time and quit for a while because I felt the cost had become prohibitive, I purchased a Honda Magna 10 years ago. this year I purchased two bikes above. I have never been on a bike with the power of my Val and I love every minute of every ride. Keep the Valkyrie in the line.
I bought my '99 new last Jan 01(dealer had 2 coming in still in the box) Had an '83 Wing before this. I haven't been riding all that long so I can't do much comparing. I love this bike big time. Wish the stock tires gave better mileage. The ride is good but I'll probably go with Metzler. The seat needs some revamping too for those longer rides. I'd also like to see running lights on the sides as well; stock of course. From what one dealer told me the 1800 is on it's way; so mine might make way for that. Can anyone tell me why Honda can't be competitive with add-ons? OEM parts seem to be 2x what aftermarket is.
It's a great bike, perfect in every way, but I agree with the other professional engineers in here, it could use a few improvements. I'd like to see a 15 gallon tank, lots more chrome, a 12 cylinder engine of at least 3500cc, fuel injected, with optional blower of course, you should figure out how to lighten it up some, it really needs a ten speed trans so it will cruise 120 mph just above idle (and get 70 m.p.g.), and for gods sake, put a automatic canceling turn signal on it, you don't expect me to remember to turn it off do you? Otherwise its perfect, don't mess with success! And if it's ready for 2002 & you offer it for under $7,000.00 I promise you, it WILL sell. thank you.
love my bike I'd like to see an 1800
More Horsepower, 6 gears, fuel injection, same classic look!
The Valkyrie is the best bike that I have ever ridden. I sold bikes at a dealership that handled 21 different brands of bikes. I rode all except the Ducati and the MVAgusta. I even test rode the VTX. It is a great bike but it does not compare to the Valk.
great bike don't stop making them.
When I saw the Valk, I was through looking for the perfect motorcycle. Just please don't abandon us Valk riders and force us to ride Harleys or Harley wannabes. The Valk stands in a class all alone!!!
love my interstate , if I had designed a bike myself this would be it , 30,000 miles 30 months , no problems , wish tires would last a little longer .
SOME IDEAS FOR A NEW VALK. PETRO GAUGE MORE ON WEIGHT LIMIT EASIER PASSENGER SEAT REMOVAL
Upgraded from a V-twin and can not imagine going back! Added Corbin seats, 6x6 Cobra pipes, K&N filter, 6 degree trigger wheel, polished the ports, Progressive 412's and forks springs and driving lights to my black and chrome 99 Tourer. Nothing needs to be changed by Honda other than to continue to support the Valkyrie. If they could upgrade to the 1800 without sacrificing handling or overall performance then that me perk my interest. Appears that Honda is moving away the Valk toward a flock of big Harley clone V-twins. Another reason I really like the Valk is that it is not just another clone - it has attitude. Ride long and ride safe.
I love my '98 standard Valk which I bought "new" in May/00 from Lawrenceville Honda. I added a Mustang saddle on it along with 440 Progressive shocks, Avon tires, Memphis Fats windshield, Motolights and many chrome goodies. If I were to change the bike, first - design the frame to be lower by 1-2". Second, either put a second odometer on the bike or put on a gas gauge (if not a gauge, a sensor light to indicate 1 gal. left). FOR A NEW VALK - just take the new 1800 GW engine and design a Valk with fuel injection and more tork around that engine and add some new solid colors like a candy apple red and blue with a silver undertone. I would keep the tach (not a rev limiter), along with the speedometer, which gives the instrumentation a sense of balance. I would buy a new 1800 Valk when available if it was designed in this way. The GW is a great bike. I owned one back in the '70's BUT it still looks like a boxcar going down the road. If I was retired and had a lot of free time to tour 1-2 weeks or longer several times a year, I would consider getting one. However, I really like the sports aspect of riding the Valk AND I'm buying a trailer to use when my wife and I take longer trips. I don't want to riding around on day trips or weekend trips on a GW when I really don't need all that storage space and I can simply attach my T-bag to the luggage rack that would handle what we need for a short trip. The T-bag along with an expanding tank bag can hold a weeks worth of gear for us. Thanks for the opportunity to provide my ideas on a great bike.
I really like my 1998 Tourer. The driver seat could be a little bit lower.
I guess it could be said that I like muscle cars and bikes and the Valkyrie is like a good muscle car yet it is as smooth as glass on the open road. I would like two things to be added as std. equipment 1.Fuel Injection, 2.Audio System, Compact and expandable.
I OWN A 2000 BLUE & SILVER INTERSTATE. I BOUGHT NEW IN JUNE 2000. I HAVE APPROXIMATELY 6000 ON IT. I'VE INSTALLED CB-RADIO/CD PLAYER, A TRAILER HITCH ALONG WITH A COLOR MATCHING TRAILER. I HAVE ALSO INSTALLED REAR SPEAKERS AND SOME EXTRA LIGHTS. IT IS THE BEST RIDE I'VE EVER HAD WITH A BIKE. THE POWER IS ALWAYS THERE, WITH MORE WHEN NEEDED. SMOOTH, NOT A VIBRATION IN THE WHOLE MACHINE. SHE ALWAYS GETS THE LOOKS. I'M VERY SAD TO SEE HONDA HAS DROPPED THE INTERSTATE MODEL FOR 2002. AS I'M VERY SATISFIED WITH MY RIDE. IF THE TIME EVER COMES I WILL NOT REPLACE IT WITH ANY OTHER CURRENT BIKES AVAILABLE AT THIS TIME. THE NEW GOLDWING ARE NICE, BUT NOT LIKE THE VALK, SAME GOES FOR THE NEW BIG V TWIN, NOTHING COMPARED TO A VALK. YOU CAN HAVE THE HARLEYS, THE VALK WILL RUN CIRCLES AROUND THEM ALL, IN EVERY CLASS. VALKYRIE IS ONE BIKE THAT IS NOT A RIP OFF OF SOME OTHER BIKE WANT TO BE. IT'S A ONE OF A KIND.
More color options, factory exhaust options, spoked wheels, change the head light
Would like to see the Valkyrie with the 1800cc engine like the Gold Wing, but with the six carbs. Needs a better front seat. The present one seems to put you into a slouching position that may become uncomfortable during long rides.
Honda, Don't change a thing, the Valk in all it's incarnations, the Standard, the Tourer and the Interstate are destined to be Harley's greatest rival. Take a cue from HD. they offer a wide variety of styles, all based on the same big bike platform. That's what you've got with the Valkyrie. The Valk's rise has only just begun. And ADVERTISE for god's sake. I continue to run into other riders on my 2000 tourer who have never even heard of one before, let alone seen one, and are very impressed to say the least, and yes even the HD riders. Then I break the news to them, oh, they don't make them anymore. DUH! The VTX is just another wannabe bar hopper, but the Valkyrie does it all and does it better in every respect. Come on Honda, don't drop the buck on this one, you've got a winner. Regards, Judd, '00' Tourer p.s. (will never own a Goldwing if that's what you're counting on, if worst comes to worst, I for one will look to HD for the variety of BIG Cruisers )
Only beef I have is with the two guys who keep filling out this survey over & over, one who's been "riding 30+ years" and wants self-canceling turn signals, and one guy who keeps making speeches about Harleys and Harley riders. GET A LIFE!
I own a '00 Tourer and am generally pleased with the bike, the main improvements I would make are: - Larger fuel tank at least 1-1/2 more gallons - Better rear lighting - Fuel, temp, oil press GAUGES - Center stand - Self canceling turn signals - Longer Mileage tires. Other wise, best bike I have owned. Good for a long haul and day trips. I really enjoy the feel, handling and performance.
I would like to see another Honda Tour with AM\FM and CB in a 1800cc or another Interstate.
LOVE MY INTERSTATE. THE LOOK THE RIDE THE HANDLING THE POWER. I HAVE ADDED ABOUT $6,000 IN ACCESSORIES PLUS HAVE A TRAILER. I PUT ABOUT 15,000 KM TO 20,000 KM PER YEAR. ATTEND AT LEAST TWO LARGE RALLIES, AMERICADE FOR SURE. WING DING, HONDA HOMECOMING, DAYTONA, ETC. WILL BE LOOKING TO REPLACE PROBABLY IN 2003 WOULD LOVE TO GET ANOTHER INTERSTATE. I REFER TO MY BIKE AS A GOLDWING ON STEROIDS OTHERS IN MY GWRRA CALL US THE SUBSPECIES I LIKE THAT A LITTLE DIFFERENT FROM THE NORM COMFORT, POWER AND RETRO STYLE GOT IT ALL LOVE IT. WOULD HATE TO CHANGE MANUFACTURERS BUT IF HONDA HAS NOTHING IN THE LINEUP THEN WILL START LOOKING AROUND. TWO CYLINDERS DOESN'T DO IT FOR ME.
Best bike I've ever ridden, let alone owned. Change nothing
I would like to see Honda back their warranties instead of saying, "We have never heard of that or we don't know".
The Valkyrie is by far the best 'Total Package' ever delivered. The only changes I would like would be a bigger, fuel inject, engine.
By far the best bike I have ever owned. Ways to improve. - signal lights that shut off automatically - accessories way to high in price. If they were a little lower I would buy more. -On the interstate the saddle bags need a better system to close them. The rubber seal has come off twice. - I would consider buying a new Valk if it came out in the 1800. Overall a great bike!
Hotrod 2000cc, loads of accessories
I'd like to see the Valkyrie lose weight and gain some cc's it was Honda's flagship performance cruiser especially with that big flat 6 and I believe it should remain the king of the show after all the that flat 6 is Honda's claim to originality and durability. You made the Gold Wing better with weight loss and engine size increase it will work with the Valkyrie. How about a Valk designed around the new wing like first one was use the aluminum frame and a hot 2000cc motor low and lean like the Magna with the 6 into 6 exhaust like the Cobra custom all stretched out.
I don't believe "Everybody" wants a V-twin. Most Valkyrie owners are proud of being a little,,,,,"different" than every other HD rider on the road. The Valk has character and attitude that NO other bike has. I think the Valkyrie was just starting to catch on big time when Honda put their development efforts into the V-twin. Hey let's play HD on their turf, like every the other major motorcycle manufacturer. I was planning on buying a new, bigger, Valk if and when it becomes available. I will keep my existing Valkyrie and hop it up for solo riding and leave the new "faired","bagger" stock for rides with the wife. I have 3 HD riding friends that were going to buy new Valkyrie Interstates this year. When Honda didn't come thru, 2 of them backed out and the third had to scramble to find a NOW DISCONTINUED Interstate before they were gone. Honda, PLEASE LISTEN,,,,Don't expect HD faithful to switch overnight. The Valk was just getting serious attention when your attention shifted. Get focused back on letting the other manufacturers try and copy you on your turf, rather than chase them on their turf.
I am about to sell my 98 Valkyrie Tourer and begin looking for an Interstate. I would like to own T2 exactly as Honda displayed it in the Red Rider Magazine!
You can ride her all day. She don't get tired and neither does my wife and I. I've never been as proud of a bike like I am of this one. Had to get Karyakyn pegs up front to be able and stretch my legs out a bit, but with this engine, I don't know of a way to have the factory pegs farther forward. Everything else is great.
the Valk is the best
I LOVE MY TOURER!!!!!!
I would like to stay in reproduction for many years.
I want a bike with a 5 speed automatic trans and so much horsepower that it's impossible to ride in a straight line. Why are you ignoring my demands? Are you only in it for the money? And a hydraulic automatically lowering centerstand would be nice, too.
Less secrecy. Better parts availability. Love the Valk. Own a 98 standard. Would buy new if 1800 FI comes out. Would still keep the 98. Needs a 6th gear for touring. Reverse would be a nice touch.
The nicest dependable cruiser ever made. the only cruiser to stand out in any group of bikes, the only bike for all us gear heads that just wont ride a Harley. not your everybody follow the leader 2 cyl look-alike. riders like me would go back to hot rods and give up riding rather then ride those bikes would like to see bigger motor in the Valk and some styling changes maybe fatter tire & drag style bars
Sold my 95' Goldwing for a 99' Valk Tourer, wanted better performance and handling. The Valkyrie has all that and then some. On my must have list is a bigger fuel tank and a higher top gear for the open road. (HONDA GET THIS; most people who pay this kind of money for a motorcycle don't do 0-60 mph stop sign to stop sign) On my wish list is self canceling turn signals, fuel gage, a better fit and paint finish. Would I buy another Honda if the Valkyrie wasn't available; NO. I would probably consider the Kawasaki Nomad or the Yamaha Road Star Silverado. The bottom line is I want a touring bike with a street cruiser that has an attitude.
I enjoy the Valkyrie as is except maybe a larger fuel tank
It's about variety... You need to take a step... Why does HD sell so many bikes?... Go look at ANY HD business and see what you can buy. The store is huge and there is jewelry, coffee mugs, mouse pads, underwear, outerwear, glasses, chrome goodies, and more stuff than you can see in an hours time. Now, go to a Honda store. It's small, low bike inventory, not in stock parts approach is ridiculous. If you were a customer who knew nothing, where would you go? Now answer this, WHY do the Honda dealers not stock parts out the wazoo? YOU know why! There may not be many folk that will convert each year, but there are many new to the lifestyle that need to be enticed from the start. Add options... People will wait a year for a HD built with the options they want put on by the factory, NOT the dealer. I would gladly pay for a new Valk now if it could be the way I wanted it. Bigger engine, 200hp, better suspension because this bike should ride like a Lexus, fuel injection or one carb, forward controls, low fuel light that would kick in a gallon before having to go on reserve, brightest lights possible everywhere, and you Mr.Big behind the desk to read and learn from all the improvements and personalization's we make to the closest thing to our own individual idea of perfection in a Cruiser bike. Make everything an option and let the customer build it the way they want. Keep the prices low and the quality high. If you want to be the best, you have to give them what they want for less and do it better than the other guy, and then throw in something for free! It's NOT about lining your pockets with gold. It's about you building things that people love to ride and are so happy that they tell everyone they know. I can call an 800# and tell a hamburger maker what I think of his food that I paid $4 for. Why can't I call you? There is also a slight insult taken from the "lets keep it all a secret " game you play with future plans. Keep it from the general public who knows nothing anyway, but DO NOT keep future plans from the repeat customers that provide the pulse in your veins. There, I've said my peace.
1. A back rest for driver on the Interstate. without having to change the whole seat. 2. If a Interstate comes with a radio, and there are cavities in the rear trunk to hold speakers, they should be included.
Owned a Standard last year, and an Interstate this year. Combined 22k on my 2 Valks and I live in Indiana where it gets cold in winter. Got my I/S in July this year and have 9k miles on it already. That should tell you a lot. I LOVE MY VALK!
Like to see a 1800cc 6 six speed VALKYRIE SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOON ! Tourer Model with radios and CB
Repositioned rider foot pegs and the 1800 engine
I have a 2000 Valkyrie Interstate. If there is never a new Valkyrie Interstate for me to buy, I may have bought my last bike.
The Valkyrie is a great bike, I love mine. What I would like to see is just a updated Valkyrie. I won't tell Honda what the updates should be. They know best, as long as it has 1800cc flat six or bigger. and you must bring back the Interstate.
Seat height under 27". Six speed transmission. Better aerodynamics at the fairing. Absolutely no fake plastic chrome anywhere. Try building a platform you can perfect over a few years. Quit dumping a model every few years. Thanks for listening
The Valkyrie Tourer is my fifth bike and my fourth Honda. The last four have all been Hondas, as I have found them to be great looking, reliable, and durable. In the six years I have been riding I have ridden 120,000 miles so I speak from a little experience. The Valkyrie is the best bike I have had for a number of reasons. I love the power and looks and, since we all love attention, the Valk never fails to attract and impress people. If you had continued all models of the present Valk, I very likely would be the owner of the Interstate as I do quite a bit of touring and would appreciate the fairing and trunk. Hopefully you plan to come with a 1800 Valk. My hope is it is not too radically different. In my opinion, the present Valk will be hard to improve on.
Traded '96 wing on '98 Tourer. (Liked '89 Wing better than '96.) No longer interested in cross-country rides. Prefer now to trailer and day ride. Have wind wings (best option), throttle lock, Mustang saddle. Like better than Wing: Lighter, quicker, more clearance for leaning, nicer exhaust note. Like less than '96 Wing: Miss auto cancel signals, elec. cruise, high mileage tires and no engine mechanical noise. Appreciate more than VTX (my other ride): Better for longer rides (less vibration) and when weather is cold or wet (better protection from elements - esp w/wind wings), secure storage (hard bags). Suggestions for new Valk: Hard bag option, elect. cruise, self-cancel signals, higher mileage tires, less engine mech. noise, better acceleration than 1800 Wing.
I presently own 2000 Valkyrie interstate. I am very happy with all aspects of the bike. but I am curious, about the future of the Valkyrie. how long is Honda going to continue the line, and or what improvements are in the works.
I presently own a 99 Interstate, which is to date the "Best" Hot-Rod"/touring bike that I have ever owned. It has old school dresser looks with smooth power! Its not a wanna-be! A Valk with a set of pipes has a unique sound all it's own. It will turn even the Harley boys heads. I think "Honda" would lose a good segment of the market if they fail to bring out an "1800" Valkyrie in "Standard, Toure r& of course "Interstate" form. I personally chose the "Valkyrie" because I did not like all of the plastic on the "wing" The new wing is nice but I believe that a "Valkyrie 1800" would be a killer bike!!!!! Having been to the first "Inzane 2001" I remember the man from "Honda" saying "We haven't forgot you folks out there" I hope he was right!!!!! If not I guess I will just have to buy another used "99" Interstate to make a hot-rod out of !!!!
can't change a good thing....just get the back order parts out....
Honda, You have created a legend, let it grow.
I have had two Valkyries, a 97 Standard and a 98 Tourer. Best bikes I have ever owned. Continue building Valkyries. Bring back the Tourer model. I would also like to see an 1800cc motor, fuel injection, dual horns, adjustable windshield with a closeable vent and hydraulic valve adjusters.
My Valk is like a time machine. It has the ability to take you to another dimension ! It take's away your problem's and has you smiling from ear to ear.
I would like to see another Tourer Model in the product line. If not, at least offer the bags and windshield as an optional package. A travel trunk as an option would be a nice option also. I would like to see the 1800cc motor from the Gold Wing in the Valkyrie.
In some close areas I would like to have reverse. But I'll never have that because my 2000 Valk tourer with over $8000.00 chrome add ons on it. I'll be buried with her. lol
It would be a marketing mistake to discontinue the Valkyrie. Enough said!
I like the Valk as is but would like to have the new 1800 engine, also with a radio and passenger intercom option
I sure liked what I saw in the Valkyrie concept bikes-put them into production and they will sell. We need that 1800cc engine.
When I went looking to buy a motorcycle to ride and be comfortable on. everyone said get a Harley the are great. Phooey, for a person my size I need to feel like there is something underneath me. When I sat on the Harley's it was like I was sitting on a tricycle and felt too small. The I went to look at some other bikes ie: Suzuki, yellow hammer, Kaw, but I found my dream ride at the Honda shop I knew it was the one to have when I walked on the lot, it was a Black and Silver Standard Valkyrie just sitting there waiting to be rode off the lot. I spoke with the salesman and said that is what I want and he tried to get me to test drive it to see if that's what I wanted and I said no need to ride it. He went inside and about 30 minutes later we signed the papers and I rode off into the sunset with my new Valkyrie. It is a real shame that Honda wants to take the best riding machine off its books. I will be riding mine until it can ride no more.. Who needs fast when you got all that chrome and the wind in your hair and the sun on your shoulder and nothing in between but the roadway.
I love my IS. Combines touring package with performance. Also like the retro. design of the IS. The new Wing is too modern, and cramped for my body frame. I've owned two Wings in the past, a '77 that I dressed out, and an '84 Interstate. My '99 IS reminds me of my '77 Wing. I did not like the way the '84 Wing handled. I think it would be a mistake for Honda to terminate or radically change the Valkyrie and especially the IS.
1. 2000 cc fuel injected engine 2. six speed transmission 3. comfortable seat The Valkyrie is the greatest bike ever built. Keep it hot and reliable.
In July I sold a 99 I/S and bought a new Goldwing 1800. November I sold the Goldwing and went back to the Valkyrie Interstate 2000. I have never missed a bike like I missed the Valkyrie. If Honda never makes a new Valkyrie I guess I'm riding my last new bike. Plus Valkyrie has the greatest web sights..
The Honda Valkyrie is my 16th motorcycle and by far the best one I've owned. Don't understand why Honda wants to discontinue this model and can't believe everyone doesn't ride one, but I'm glad they don't! I'd like to see Honda come out with another Valkyrie made from the Goldwing's 1800 motor. Also Honda customers need to be able to buy some of the same clothing products that Harley sells for their customers, like T shirts, Leathers & Coats, accessories and trinkets all bearing the Honda brand name. I'd like to see Honda support its motorcycle clubs like Harley does their HOG chapters. Honda customers are just as loyal as Harley customers are. Honda is missing out on some serious cash by not supporting it customers!
I love my Valkyrie. I also recently purchased a GL1800. Great engine and handling. Next Valk...hot rod the 1800 engine, improve handling, and I might have to make room for another Valk in my garage. (I'm not getting rid of my '98 Tourer either)
WOW!!!!! I HAD A LOT OF FUN WITH MY 500CC HONDA 4 CYL WHICH I WORKED ON BACK IN THE EARLY 70'S. DURING THAT TIME BOW DERECK WAS THE MODEL ON THE FRONT COVER OF CYCLE WORLD MAG. LEANING ON THE BIKE I JUST WAS ABOUT TO BUY. I ACTUALLY MET HER AND SHOWED HER THE MAG.[THAT'S ANOTHER STORY] AFTER SELLING MY BIKE TO A FRIEND I PURCHASED A MINT 76 SPORTSTER. IT WAS COOL BUT NOT WITHOUT PROBLEMS....MY BEAUTIFUL BLONDE WIFE BOUGHT ME A 1999 VALK TOURER AS A SURPRISE FOR OUR 20TH ANNIVERSARY AND I WOULD RATE THEM BOTH A PERFECT 10....
would like to see new 1800cc motor in new Valkyrie WOULD ALSO LIKE TO SEE ADJUSTABLE FORKS & STANDARD FLOORBOARDS WITH HEEL/TOE SHIFTER ON INTERSTATE MODELS.
I purchased a new Honda Valkyrie in 2000. I have 14000 mi. already and love to dress up my Valk. The bike is without a doubt superior to just about any other ride on the road. The Valkyrie handles like a sport bike. The power and torque are incredible. The only thing I would like to see Honda change on the Valkyrie is fuel injection and maybe 1800cc engine. Than I would most definitely buy another Valkyrie, if not I will keep the one I got!
Number of bikes? Presently owned or over the Years? Presently one (1). Over the past 50 years, about 25. What would I like to see in a new Valkyrie? Ans. A NEW VALKYRIE! A NEW 1800 VALKYRIE! I have never been happier or for that matter, as happy with any previous motorcycle. Well, maybe my old '65 and '66 Dream 305's made me pretty happy too. Of course, I was much younger then, but I did not want to have to work on my motorcycle in order to get to ride it then either. That's why I ride a Honda today. Honda, you have started a "Cult", a very substantial one, don't drop the ball now!
the Valk is what transformed me from a casual motorcyclist into a hardcore Honda biker. I love everything this machine stands for: Quality, performance, value, a passion for the sport not just the image, and the inability of any HD rider to accuse me of ridding a clone! in just four model years Honda has created a legend and sprung up a following for a single model unlike any other I have ever known to occur in such little time. my wish list for the new Valk would be 1. centerstand 2. single sided swing arm 3. reverse 4. fuel injection 5. improved carrying capacity (wife and I come in close to 500 lbs w/out gear) 6. I want you to decimate all critics that say Honda builds junk shocks by setting the industry standard for them. don't cheat your selves keep the Valk forever!!!
I have owned every bike worth owning in the cruiser class and my Valk is the best! I would like to see the new Valk look more like the Honda Concept bike number 2, I think. Give it a power cruiser version of the 1800cc or even 2L.
I am pleased to find that Honda is running this survey, as it indicates there may be an upgraded version of the Valkyrie in the works. Other than simply being a joy to ride, to me the Valkyrie represents three bikes in one. It is a cruiser that feels great when poking down main street. It is a tourer on which you can ride all day with Goldwingers and not feel the least disadvantaged. And finally it is a canyon burner on which you can manage alarming speed, even keeping up with sport bikes, when traversing the "twisties." I enjoy all three styles of riding. If Honda does not produce an upgraded version of the bike I will probably be updating my ride with used Valkyries for years to come. My 1997 version has 150,000 miles on it. What do I want in an upgraded version? (1) Keep the light handling and high ground clearance that allows it to run with sport bikes. (2) Keep the raw and honest motorcycle look with the engine very much in view. (3) Aluminum or steel frame? I don't care. (4) Retro or upgraded style? Prefer retro but whatever, just so it looks good. (5) Increase displacement and include variable valve timing to maintain present torque characteristics but with increased peak output. The present machine is not short on HP but one must keep up in the HP race, i.e. a 6 cylinder 1800 cc machine should at least have equal or more HP than a 2 cylinder1300 cc machine. For real sales success Honda must allow people to get a feel for what the bike is truly like via demo rides. Due to the bike's size, potential customers often pass it up thinking it would be too clumsy or difficult to handle. Indeed, not only can customers make this error but I have also heard numerous salesmen pass the bike off in the same way. Only an ongoing demo ride program would dispel these concerns. In the Valkyrie you have produced a great bike and, presuming this survey indicates that a new version is on the way, I can think of nothing more exciting. I will be at the dealer to pick up the first one that hits town.
More engine horsepower and performance than a GL1800. Single-sided swing arm for easy tire changes. Larger Alternator. Cruise control. Centerstand. Instrumentation should include engine coolant temperature gauge, and a Voltmeter.
I'm very disappointed to hear Honda may drop the Valkyrie. I bought this bike without riding it. I've built street-rods for 35yrs and the idea of Honda making a street-rod out of a gold-wing was irresistible. I said in the 60's that I would never own a Japanese bike, so I had to eat my words, and this is my first. This is a great bike that could use a little help with the front end geometry and maybe a taller first gear. I think I'll keep this bike forever !
My 2000 Interstate would be perfect if Honda offered: 1. Cruise Control 2. 6th Gear 3. Better Working C.B. 4. AM/FM radio with cd/cassette 5. Center Stand 6. ABS Brakes
My 2000 Blue/Silver Interstate is the best bike that I have ever ridden or owned. I wish that: 1)the C.B. worked better without the need for high squelch, 2)a factory installed cruise control, and 3) a audio system with cassette and cd along with the am/fm radio. Otherwise my bike is absolutely perfect
Improvements: 1. Center Stand 2. Automatic turn signal cancel 3. Low fuel warning light
Honda makes the best machines, with Yamaha close behind. Current ride is a 2000 Valkyrie Interstate. Valkyrie wish list 1. ABS Brakes 2. AM-FM Radio Now that the Interstate has been discontinued, an OEM optional AM-FM (Cassette?) radio that can be attached to ANY of Honda's cruisers, including the VTX.
Tell' em make it a 1800cc and I'm in for a new one. What a perfect machine. Period!
I fell in love with the Valkyrie the first time I saw it on the showroom floor! I have 55,ooo miles on my 99 standard and have had 0 problems of any kind. I bought my Valk because it doesn't look like a Harley clone! Please put the 1800cc engine in the new Valk and I will be a Valk rider forever.
I will buy a new Valk if it has the 1800 engine. I like the direction of styling that the Valkyrie line has gone with, ie take a goldwing and remove all the covers and hop up the engine, throw in some chrome, but most importantly, let the excellent engineering show.
Reverse gear (Gold Wing) 6th speed (top gear)
The Valk. is the most awesome all around bike I have ever owned or ridden. I think fuel injection would be A big boost to carry the Valk well into the 21st century.
Currently own two of the greatest Honda's ever made 99 Valk I/S and 79 CBX. Can't beat the Valk for overall pleasure and comfort. Items the new Valk must have; redesigned fairing for more protection from the elements (adjustable windshield), 1800/2000cc engine (never enough power), overdrive 6th gear or high / low range from the long gone 900 custom days, center stand, better speakers and 6 disc changer standard, slip on type exhaust for quick change. With that said, Thanks Honda for building the best M/C's on the market. I've ridden and owned only Honda's and the one that has given me the MOST pleasure is the Valk I/S. My wife and I love it (we can smoke any stock H/D with us riding two up) and when you come out with the 2003/2004 I/S with more power and a few of the upgrades, it will be time to trade up. Thanks
I bought 98 std. Valk to which I've added Honda line windshield, Champion Sidecar saddlebags and trunk, and Corbin seat. Great bike except for to small gas tank, weak rear shocks and not an 1800 eng. I hope Honda doesn't discontinue the Valk and listens to survey results. P.S. Would like to know why Honda parts cost so much?
I own 2 Valkyries 98'standard and a 99'interstate. there is no bike on the market today that could replace these bikes. only a larger Valkyrie
the only negative or problem that I have had with my val is the the oil filter lactated behind the front tire. I have had rocks punch holes in the filter from being thrown the front tire. I recently purchased a chrome filter cover that has solved the problem. I have always owned Hondas and will continue to own Hondas. the dependability is unmatched and so are the looks. my val is an eye catcher and i love it. we are going to Alaska in july,2002 from California. happy holidays. sincerely, mountain man
My 97 Valkyrie is the best machine I have ever owned.55k MI. and never returned to the shop. I have done all the MX myself and found nothing needed. I would like to see a 2000cc Valkyrie with a cruising gear.
Before I purchased my 98 Tourer, I road a Roadking. I had always wanted to own a Harley but was very disappointed with the bike. As I visited different rallies, I would see the Valkyrie but just couldn't decide if I loved it or hated it. As we all know, it's different and that is ultimately what won me over. The look continued to grow on me until I decided I had to ride one. That was all it took. I decided within the first couple of miles that I was going to own this bike, the only thing in question was how much was I going to have to pay for it. This IS the best bike I have ever ridden. It not only looks and handles great, it has the power the Harley was missing. My wish list to improve would contain self canceling turn signals, a gas gauge, foot boards, and fuel injection. I DON'T WANT A V-TWIN and I don't want a Gold Wing. If Honda eliminate the Valkyrie, they eliminate me as a customer.
I love my 99 Interstate...commute everyday I can, and ride every chance I get, Iron Butts, Sturgis, will ride to the Hoot this year. Am very disappointed with Honda's need to abandon a great bike with a loyal following (just look at the VRCC). If I could have my wishes it would be for a electronic cruise, 6th gear, reverse, and a center stand. But this would just be to make a great bike perfect. As it is, I will ride it until I can't ride it anymore, but will always be suspect of Honda for abandoning such a beautiful ride.
Fuel injection, larger tank on all models (not just interstate), similar 1800 goldwing changes regarding suspension, more power than the wing, a 6th gear (overdrive), blow away the V-rod and other twins on the road in performance... and soon, please!!
Cruise control, auto canceling of the turn signals, 1800 cc engine. Please return the touring options.
Floor boards - custom but stock. Better seats- with/ button on Custom add-ons. (Easily done) (Buttons, fringe...etc) Custom paint designs.- Factory designed. CHROME CHROME CHROME - More chrome around fenders and Tank Lots more ideas...not enough time
I currently ride a 2000 Valkyrie Tourer bought new in 2000. I am extremely impressed by the my bike and feel that it might be the last bike that I will by unless Honda produced an improved version of the Valkyrie. Possibly an 1800 fuel injected 6 cyl version with aluminum frame. The 1800 VTX is not an alternative option. Thanks for the opportunity to comment.
1800 CC Tourer in a Yellow and Pearl color. That way I could buy one to match my 1998 model. I DO NOT like the new paint schemes. The racing stripe down the tank and the fenders does nothing for me. I would like to purchase an 1800 CC if one becomes available. But will not purchase if it has the stripe scheme.
I liked the Valk from the first time I saw it at Americade in '96 and said "If this machine had been available when I bought the wing in '95 I would have bought the Valk instead,, However if I could ever afford the Valk I would buy one. As luck would have it the Govt changed to Social Security Law in '95,and with that change I kept my promise and now own a 2000 Valk. I ride the Valk more than the Wing, and although I like both, I am making the Valk my ride of choice. I did not and do not care for the Interstate. I think it has the appearance of having the fairing stuck on willie nilly, so I bought the Tourer for the look. I have some dealer installed goodies and some personal touches supplied by other vendors. I and many others think the Bike is a goooood looookin bike. I am dismayed by the rumor this machine is soon to be no longer manufactured. But I'm glad I have mine.
What can you improve on, it is a great bike. Plenty of HP and torque, yet a wonderful cruising bike. Keep up the good work. PS. You new twin will never replace the dragon. Kevin Rollins
I thin the Valk needs to be marketed thru the media to let everyone know what a great bike it is and hopefully it will live on indefinitely - lots of folks are afraid of purchasing a bike that is in the process of being eliminated and that's the word on the Valk - it ain't an old man's bike but lots of us old men are still young at heart and like to ride like hell !!!!!!!!!!!!
foremost, a different gearing ratio with a 6 speed gear box. Second, a fuel gauge. Third, a different exhaust system so slip ons could be used. A hotter version of the new 1800 engine with a six speed that had a useable first gear would be exciting. I have owned 13 bikes in my life and my Valk is the best scooter I have ever been on. Don't let it die.
Loved my Valkyrie Tourer - had to sell due to loss of job. Have searched and searched for another and they are very hard to find. Finally found a brand new one at a dealership several miles from where I live and am praying that it will still be there in the Spring and that I will have a job where I can afford it! I'd buy another Valkyrie in an instant if I am able. Would like to see: self-canceling turn signals, reverse; centerstand; TOURER model continued; gas gauge. Don't let us down Honda!
1800cc; solid lifters & fuel injection; self-canceling turn signals; reverse; keep big as user friendly as it is currently. Start making the Tourer again! The Valkyrie has a solid, committed and loyal following - Honda needs to remember that and act accordingly. Loyalty is a TWO-WAY street.
MORE SPORTIER - SIMILAR RUNNING GEAR (WHEELS/TIRES) TO VTX BUT WITH BETTER GROUND CLEARANCE - BETTER BRAKES WITH SEE THROUGH ROTORS (WHAT'S THE USE OF POLISHING THE WHEELS IF YOU CAN'T SEE THEM) - MORE POWER AT LEAST 130 BHP - MAIN STAND - SOME ACCESSORIES ALONG THE LINE OF THE VTX - OPTION OF A GEL SEAT - FUEL INJECTION BETTER STILL TRY AND ADAPT THE ENGINE TO FIT A LARGER VERSION HORNET!
1800cc and or a 6th gear
I now have a 72 CL200, 94 VLX600, 86 Rebel 250, 86 XR250R and 98 Valk all Hondas Love them all, the Valk is a nice bike if only it had 6 gears. 2000rpm at 70mph
1. Self canceling turn signals. 2. Fuel gauge 3. Firmer stock front shocks 4. Faster acceleration - this, more than any other feature, will excite the new buyer.
The Valkyrie started a revolution in big bikes and although we understand the desire of Honda not to take away from the new Goldwing, the Valkyrie is in another category. As noted it was the Cruiser of the Decade, And a new Valkyrie in 2002 or 2003 with more power and Fuel injection will continue this tradition. Yes, the Goldwings from all I hear are great but it is not a cruiser it is a touring bike. There is never a day that goes by that I do not get stopped and folks admire my Valkyrie even over my buddies new Wing. Yes I did have the opportunity to by a New Wing in 2001 but I wanted to see the massive motor, the Chrome and have the power that comes by owning the hottest cruiser that Honda ever made. A few features that would be nice. Fuel injection with a 2000cc motor, Canceling turn signals. Options, to add hard bags, and trunk if desired, adjustable clutch and brake levers, cruise control, gel pads built into the seat, adjustable risers and bars, radio with optional CB/and or CD deck, Optional back rest and sissy bars, adjustable highway pegs and adjustable passenger foot pegs, Optional windshield in various sizes. Harley Davidson offers options on all there standard bikes, Honda could learn from them. A lot of these items could be carried over into the Goldwing, VTX and other top of the line bikes that Honda offers such as designing the windshield to fit both the Valk and goldwing, adjustable foot pegs, take the cruise control, and make the size of the crash bars one diameter and make it a standard size for the Goldwings, Valkyrie, VTX, Shadows, Magna's. Make options cross available for the different lines. Options for the ST1300 to fit the 929 or the F4i. Engineering to make options that go across the line of bikes instead of to just one model... The dollar savings would be tremendous.
Honda--the Valkyrie is a classic out of the box. I was in Sturgis last year and was surprised at how many Harley riders came over and started a conversation always asking the same questions about power, speed, and comfort. Many made the statement in front of other "Harley Riders" that the Valk. would be their next ride. This is extremely interesting because Harley riders stick together-and there is no other bike worth looking at if it ain't a Harley. Don't drop the Valk. it is really catching on and don't bite the riders hand that feeds you. I had a 97 ACE and when you discontinued the 1100 the resale went to very little. I bought a Valk. after taking a beating on the ACE because you don't seem to have much loyalty for your customers. If the Valk. is dropped I and all my friends will keep ours and ride them until they fall apart--but we will never buy another Honda again. I would like to see at least fuel inj. even if you don't increase cc's. Please don't abandon us again. Randy Talley
1800 motor? Footrest raising kit? OEM toe and heel gear change.
love my bike , the best bike i ever owned i would like to see a 1800cc Valk c'mon Honda let's do it thanks Robert"sixshooter"vrcc#8816
WHY ARE YOU DISCONTINUING THE VALKYRIE INTERSTATE FOR 2002?
OVER THE YEARS I'VE TRIED THEM ALL. BOUGHT THE VALKYRIE (98 STANDARD) FOR THE LOOKS, HANDLING AND MOST IMPORTANT, POWER AND RELIABILITY. AVERAGING 20 - 25,000 MILES/YEAR. THINGS I WOULD LIKE TO SEE IMPROVED: BIGGER TANK, FUEL GAUGE, OIL/TEMP GAUGES. COULD ALSO HAVE A SIXTH GEAR FOR BETTER FUEL MILEAGE. WOULD BE NICE TO HAVE THE 1800 INJECTED ENGINE. ALL IN ALL THE BEST M/C ON THE MARKET.
Leave the Valkyrie just the way it is and continue to build it. The Chrome wheels are nice. Mine's a '98
I am very pleased with my 2000 Valkyrie Interstate. But I hear the Interstate is no longer available. I would like to have cruise control for those long trips, when I want to stretch my hand. Most of my rides are very long ones. If the Interstate is no more,,,I guess I'll have look else where. But for now I'll just enjoy my Interstate that I Love. I also have a 1100 ACE, I test rode a lot of bikes including the new VTX and I'll stick with the Valkyrie...THANK YOU !!!
I love the Valkyrie. Improvements would be fuel injection, better rear shocks and that's about it. Ability to use slip on mufflers and a fuel gauge would be nice.
So How does one improve upon perfection? Give it the new 1800 Wing motor!
I would like the Interstate to be continued and I would like fuel injection.
Continue the interstate!!!!!!!
I LOVE MY INTERSTATE, NEED TO INCLUDE FOLLOWING, 1800 CC ENGINE, BETTER DESIGN FOR WIND COMING UP FROM UNDER FARING WHEN IT RAINS THE WATER BLOWS UP IN YOUR FACE. THE WIND TUNNEL ON THE FARING JUST UNDER THE WINDSHIELD NEEDS A VENT THAT CAN BE OPENED AND CLOSED (SAME REASON RAIN) , AUTO TURN SIGNAL SHUT OFF, CRUISE CONTROL, CD PLAYER/RADIO/C.B. INCLUDED IN PACKAGE, OTHER THAN THAT IT IS A PERFECT BIKE, OUTSHINES H.D. IN FACT IF THE VALK COMES OUT WITH AN 1800 CC , I KNOW SEVERAL HD GUYS THAT WILL SWITCH. ONE ALREADY BOUGHT A BOSS HOSS BUT TOO BIG AND WOULD BUY THE 1800 VALK
appearance is so different to what's else on the market and it is not a "look alike V Twin". Sound an power of six-pack at low rpm in the forth year of riding still creates goose-skin. The ideal bike for the individualist. Incredible high quality standard and functional design on details. For me it's "THE bike"- only pain: the heat created by the fan in summer time in the city, its really becoming a hot ride!
The Valkyrie is an awesome bike. Why mess with a good thing. If Honda needs to upgrade the Valkyrie then consider two different motor options. They could leave the 1520 model and have another 1800 option. Not all riders see the need for only an 1800 model. The current line of Valkyries are also priced to sell. The 1800 will definitely cost more and to some put it out of reach to buy. Other options could still include Tourer and Interstate models of both engine sizes. Other considerations should be for an option of reverse. Possibly add some high performance options to the menu. Whatever you do, keep building and selling the Valkyrie. BIG mistake is you don't. Try better advertising the Valkyrie.
I just acquired a brand new 1999 Interstate. It must be the finest motorcycle ever made! I will add accessories such as: cruise control, cd changer, headsets for helmets, fog/running lights to pods, some sort of additional lights to rear - maybe an 1800 spoiler with brake light, and maybe a headlight modulator, etc. Spare me all the chrome do-dads I could add. It is beautiful stock. What else does it need? Self-canceling turn signals and throw in a custom cover made to fit. It is a great machine.
Adjust or design rear brake pedal so foot can rest on foot peg correctly. I am sorry but after 35000 miles and owning it since 7-7-96 This is my only complaint. I drive tractor trailer across five states every week which only gives me two or three day's a week to ride. I would love to have another bike but not at the expense of trading my Valk. Almost a perfect motorcycle. THANK YOU HONDA
After I got out of the service, I could never find a bike that could touch what I wanted, after my '68 Bonnie (T120R). It had the power, looks and sound I wanted as a 24-year-old. Thirty years later, I just happened to go to a Honda shop with a friend and a salesman rolled one out. I didn't see it because it was a couple of feet behind me. The demo Valk had Two Brothers 6 into 6 pipes. When he fired the beast up, I though something ‘very mad’ was ripping my leg off. When the salesman pulled the bike into the clear road he 'lit it up'. I hadn't seen a big bike do that before. I bough one two months later and have been to several Harley ride-ins. Black and chrome with great sound and power gets all kinds or respect. Love it.
This is my second Valkyrie, had a 97 standard and now own a 2000 interstate. Enjoyed the standard, but now we do more long distance riding two up with the interstate. Great bike but I do feel cheated by Honda for no longer offering the I/S. It's to bad Honda wanted to be a Harley, or should I say VTX.
I love my current Valkyrie. It would have been nice if Honda had offered chrome wheels. A new Valkyrie should be at least 1800cc and 135HP stock. A six speed transmission with 6 gear used for long range low RPM touring on highways to improve range and fuel consumption. A larger fuel tank 7 to 8 gallons. Instruments you can read day, night, dawn, dusk. A bigger alternator. Better lighting front and rear. More optional chrome accessories. A center stand and less lean on the side stand. Cleaner looking cabling, wiring, and hoses. Just please keep making them.
Love it. also have a nighthawk for my wife.
I love my '98 Standard. If I were to improve the Valkyrie, here are some things I would change: 1. I'd like to see the new 1800cc (or larger) engine 2. I'd like to have a lightbar as standard equipment. 3. I'd like to see emergency flashers added (so you can be seen when you stop to help those Hardley riders!) 4. Make road pegs standard equipment.
Really enjoy the bike Would like to see 1. 1800 cc 2. helmet locks 3. self-canceling turn signals 4. fuel injection 5. reverse gear
larger gas tank and overdrive. I have 1997 tourer great bike . hope Honda keeps making the Valk.
Gauges, pods to direct heat on all models, center stand, bigger gas tank, more pull back on the risers, better seat. Of all the street bikes I've owned, my '98 Valkyrie Tourer is best. I could have purchased any bike, any model, including the new 2002 GoldWing, I purchased this bike after much research. I'll do it again when I wear this one out!
2000 std. Best all around bike that I have had. Desire: Self Canceling turn signals, Engine monitoring gauges, Put dual horns that will command attention. Out of sight is fine just so that they are effective. Slightly larger fuel tank, The fit and finish on the 2- piece rear fender is poor. Mine is Black + yellow. The stripes have never aligned. Looks bad. More power!!! Let's see if you can best it with a new Valk! I'm waiting.
I want the Valk to be 130 Hp at the rear wheel
Temp. and gas gauges, more gas capacity, more power, longer lasting tires and brakes, cop detector, and centerstand.
I have been riding the Valk since its inception (spring 96). Love the bike, it could use some updating . I would purchase another .
At the beginning of 2001 I owned 2 Kawasaki motorcycles. A 1500cc Vulcan Classic and a Voyager XII. Both 96's. While visiting Bergen Honda in Lodi, NJ I saw a 1999 Valkyrie Interstate (leftover) on the showroom floor. Fell in love with the bike. I now own the I/S, and Bergen owns the Kawasaki's. I picked up the I/S on July 18, 2001 and have ridden over 5,000 miles to date. This is a fantastic machine. Extremely comfortable, and handles beautifully. I would buy another with the same engine or the new 1800 that the Wing has. There are a couple of things I would like to see on the new models that aren't on the latest ones. reverse would be a great addition for the shorter people, auto canceling turn signals would make a big difference and better availability of accessories. More accessories would be wonderful, but, would settle for having the accessories listed in catalogs available for, immediate, purchase. Please keep the Valkyrie and Interstate models in your lineup. I have no interest in your new VTX 1800 model, and I'm sure that the many Valk. owners feel the same. Thanks for your interest. Al Whitaker
I ONLY HAVE ONE BIKE, AND THE REASON IS IT IS THE BEST OF ALL WORLDS. I RODE HARDLEY-DRIVABLES FOR YEARS, THEN IN 1997 I EXPERIENCED THE SAVAGRY, THE RAW POWER, AND NIMBLE HANDLING OF "VALKYRIE". I SOLD MY BARELY-RIDABLE 5-DAYS LATER, AND PURCHASED THE LOVE OF MY LIFE, MY BLUE AND CREAM 98' STANDARD VALKYRIE. IF HONDA BUILDS A BIGGER AND BETTER VALK, I WILL BUY IT. IF THEY DON'T I WILL RIDE MINE UNTIL IT DROPS, THEN FIND SOMETHING ELSE TO RIDE. HONDA WILL LOSE A LOYAL RIDER FOR SURE. A SIXTH GEAR WOULD BE GREAT TOO.....
I love the Valkyrie the way it is, but it could definitely use better gas mileage. I would like to see a Valkyrie based on the GL1800; maybe 1850cc, with fuel injection, and the single rear swingarm. I have an Interstate; and I would like to see it return, as I hear it isn't available for 2002.
1800-2000cc..self-cancelling turn signals...4 way flashers.. tourer model, not interstate...good horn similar to the new wing...handle like the new wing, or better.. fuel injection...cruise control.. under the seat mounted am/fm with remote control on the handlebars...reasonable prices on hondaline accessories..
I would like the new Valkyrie to have a better sound, the old ones are to quiet. Also the new Valk should ride 2 inches lower in the rear, easier to ride more comfortable. Also make more custom parts. Not enough selection, also these parts are way to expensive. The Valk is one of the best machines on the road, just make it sound better. You'll sell a lot more of them.
I love my Interstate. I would love to see the CB come stock.
I love my Valkyrie-please continue to make it-an 1800cc model would be great but I see nothing wrong with continuing with the present Valkyrie-would be great to offer the tourer again
bigger, faster, more masculine, more horsepower, street rod looking, cleaner design lines. I would be happy with Honda Valkyrie Prototype type #2. It has all the character needed to be a best seller.
I have the 98 Valk standard. will buy a 1800 cc Valk if your company makes it.
Equip it with the 1800 engine and F.I. Engineer the frame and rest of the bike to reduce total weight.
Absolutely LOVE my Valk. Only two requests to Honda - 1. DO NOT discontinue the Valk. Greatest bike I have ever owned. 2. Wish the Valk had fuel injection.
Update of styling while keeping the Valkyrie character of high-tech mechanicals with traditional cruiser look. Using the GW platform, a 2 liter version for the Valkyrie, which will once again make the Valk the "King of the Cruisers." More promotion, more brand recognition events and apparel, etc. This is the ONE bike that outclasses the Harleys while clearly not trying to be one of them. Honda should capitalize on that fact by supporting the Valkyrie and enhancing the prestige of its size, performance and uniqueness. Coupled with the awesome VTX, Honda could reestablish the market preeminence it once enjoyed in the increasingly lucrative cruiser space.
The Valkyrie is the best looking and performing production cruiser ever made. Mine is a 1998 Standard (but there is nothing standard about it!!). Yes, I have customized it fairly extensively, but it is still a Valkyrie. Some thoughts on off the rack improvements: Stock exhaust sounds BAD...needs some help. I put on TBR 6:6. Stock seats are BAD...unless you like numb butt. I put on Corbin. The stock mirrors are way too BIG. I put on some Kuryakyn Ovals. I guess there are three other things I would want in a new iteration of the Valk: The 1800 CC (or bigger!!) F6 More rake in the front end More overall interchangeability of parts with American bikes. An example is the riser spread. Why can't it be 3.5" on center...there would be soooo many more parts available it it was??? All in all, I LOVE THE VALK, and I would not ever buy a Harley, Yamaha, BMW, or other cruiser as long as there are Valks available. Please, please, please do not discontinue this killer machine!!
I love the bike but hate the heat on my lags. Move the radiator somewhere else. make the tank 1 gal. bigger.
I have a 2001 IS. I really enjoy it and bought it after owning a 2000 Sabre as I wanted to do more touring than just around town riding. I think it's a fine bike and have done some considerable distances with satisfaction. My only complaint is that it's a little heavy and clumsy at low speeds. This is far offset by the stability on the highway. I was disappointed that you eliminated the Tourer and now the IS. No doubt the line will be eliminated in 03 and your marketing focus shifted to the VTX. This makes the Gold Wing the only true touring bike Honda has to offer and for many of us, it's not an alternative for the Valk. It's more of an old guys bike (sorry). The Valk was a powerful alternative that looked cool, performed well, and could take you on long trips. You won't replace the Valk buyers with VTX or Wing buyers in my opinion. Harley will be thrilled with the new round of Road King and Electra Glide buyers who want to tour and still have a cool looking ride. The new ST1300 may catch a little of the slack, but my wife ain't gonna want to sit on that play like pillion for 300 miles! Obviously, you get to make the calls. Let's see what you decide.
The Valkyrie is still the best cruiser on the market, although somewhat in a class by itself, given the riding position and engine configuration. Even with the introduction of the big V-twins this year, the Valkyrie is still a unique alternative to the traditional cruiser. An 1800cc engine is a possibility, but not a necessity. There is more to riding than engine size and power, and besides, the bike is heavy enough.
Great bike and fantastic ride. Would like to see a CB as standard. Also better sounding exhaust.
I fell in love with the Valkyrie at first sight! I have one of the early models (#3464) and I still love it! I have added lots of chrome bits, but still no windshield or saddlebags. I want nothing to distract from that beautiful engine! People see that and they always comment on it. The engine makes the bike so unique. It is smooth and POWERFUL! Wow when I crank on the throttle the acceleration still gives me a rush! It is stable on the highway, even when passing trucks, but handles well through the corners. It is a great all round bike. I have used it to go from MA to Colorado and back via N. Carolina or out for a leisurely afternoon on the local back roads. A new Valkyrie should use the new Gold Wing engine, and perhaps a version of that neat frame. The engine should once again be retuned and hot rodded up a bit. When the bike first came out it set the bar in the power cruiser class. As a matter of fact it created the power cruiser class!! The VTX is a nice bike but it will never move me like that Valkyrie did. Anybody who understands engines knows that 2 cylinders will never make the power of 6. Although I have not seen a direct unbiased comparison between the VTX and Valkyrie I am reasonably sure that even though the VTX is 300 cc's bigger it is roughly similar in performance. A continuation of the Valkyrie line with a new 1800 cc engine could once again be the class leader/definer that it began as, and reaffirm your motto "performance first"
I ride a 2000 tourer and love it, I love my Valkyrie Tourer. It has style, class, power and great handling. I would love to see an 1800cc fuel injected model. I would like a bigger tank and a self canceling turn signal. A six speed transmission would be nice. The only thing that could get me to change from my current Valkyrie is another Valkyrie!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!11
Paint / chrome / alloy finish is NOT good. Many European manufacturers achieve a MUCH better and longer lasting finish. Many parts could be made lighter - e.g. fenders, exhausts etc. New bike needs to be lighter, use either an uprated PanEuropean engine or the new 1800 GoldWing block, but tuned to stomp !! It needs to trample all over new H-D V-Rod in performance and handling and looks.
I've owned a number of bikes thru the years mostly used of few new.. The Valk is one of the best, sure footed, well balanced, plenty of power, dependable. I would like to have a few items on the new Valk. One item is dc output ports to run the cell phone ,ect, ect. Two would be a reverse gear, yep a reverse gear would be nice for the couch rocket .Third is better fuel economy, there is nothing worse than cruising at 27 mpg. At 27 mpg I might as well be driving a Toyota. An average of 35 mpg would be nice.. This is all I want Honda to do to the Valk...nmnmnm
When the Valkyrie debuted in 96 I knew it would be my next motorcycle, and it was. I own a 98 Tourer. Nothing can compare to the versatility of this bike. Long trips, around town or the winding road, it handles them effortlessly. The same can be said whether solo or riding two-up with luggage. I chose the Valkyrie because of it's cruiser styling, it's abundant power, and the dependable Goldwing engine. I'm sorry to see the Tourer and Interstate removed from the current Honda line-up. With the Tourer gone in '01, the Interstate gone in '02, common sense could only dictate the Standard may not see '03 production. Previous intentions were to replace my Tourer with an Interstate within the next few years. No offense, but I'm not ready for a Goldwing...I like chrome too much. The VTX seems to be a great bike, and although it's the "biggest" out there, it just doesn't have the mystique for being "different" from any other power-cruiser, like the Valkyrie does. You scratch my back and I'll scratch yours, Honda. Keep the Valkyrie alive and I'll keep singing your praises; drop it from the line-up, & I'll have to go with the Road King. I don't like to admit that, but my only other foreseeable option would be to keep my Valk until it just won't go anymore.
