Salzburg to Narbonne to Carcassonne

Oh my goodness, we are eating again! Off to the station to meet Petra.

A walk around town for sightseeing before we leave Salzburg.

Surprise! Coffee at a famous coffee house on the square.

Time to pack the bikes again for the trip southward. Almost everyone is traveling light this time.

At the train station we measure the car and bike carrier to make sure Michael's new taller windshield will fit. Just makes it.

Loading the bikes onto the carrier.

The railroad loaders really know their jobs, but they had never seen a trailer behind a bike. Michael had to pay for a car space. They load the bikes and convertibles on the lower deck in case of sparks. About 50 bikes were loaded at Salzburg, including the Harley-Davidson Club of Vienna. We ran into the riders for the next couple of weeks all over Spain and France.

Not much headroom for tall guys or bikes

After settling into our sleeping compartments and opening the wall between Michael and Petra's and Rob and Daryl's we all grabbed a shower and headed for the dining car.

Fun on the train - we don't want to know what Petra is doing.

Franz said it was like traveling with a bunch of Japanese tourists - all taking photos all the time. We kept the whole dining car in laughter with our stories and jokes.

Dinner, talk and then bed. Petra wanted to sleep on the uppermost bunk and she did.

Franz lied - he said first on, first off. However, when we got to Narbonne at 10:30 the next morning there were 250 bikes (we picked up more in Munich and Avignon) and it was a long, hot wait to unload as it was first on, last off.

The Corbieres wine region in southwest France on the way to Carcasonne.

Carcassone is a medieval walled city, so we walked up the hill to their castle.

Impromptu entertainment from a bagpipe band and a couple who kissed passionately while she had her owl on her arm.

Time to have a coffee!

The merry-go-round at the hilltop city.
