Carcassonne to Saint Girons

Morning preparations for the start of the Pyrenees leg of our trip.

You never know what you will meet on the roadways when you do not take major highways.

Franz and Herbert go their own way, intent on climbing every hill and going through every pass.

The Wings stop for refreshment .

TomTom takes us off road - first it says 400m of dirt road and then it changes to 4km so we turn around and get back on the secondary roads with the farm equipment.

Another TomTom adventure or two - what we called "goat tracks" instead of roads.

Scenes from a Wing.

Franz and Herbert's own special tour.

Waiting for Franz and Herbert in Saint Girons. Thank God we found a wonderful bakery. Michael was about ready to faint from hunger. The owner recommended a hotel owned by some friends so off we went to...

the Chateau de Beauregard, owner by Angie (English) and Paul (French). It was one of the nicest places we stayed.

\
As you can see, it had a pool.

Even though the water was not heated and not very warm.

They allowed us to park the bikes inside their special events tent.

In the lap of luxury amid the rose gardens.

Rob and Daryl try out the spa, which was the former stables and has a fireplace.

Rob and Daryl's room was so new the phone wasn't even hooked up, but oh, so nice!

Lounging in the courtyard before dinner at the hotel's restaurant.

Paul cooks his grandmother's regional recipes, over an open fire and the meals are called the
"menu gargantua", because they are 6 huge courses, including pig roasted on the spit.

It was long evening of eating, but somehow we managed, although Franz and Herbert look a little tired.
