Aosta to Grindelwald
At the Swiss border we see some tuned up Porsches, Ruf and Stryker. They must
not have their papers since they turn around and go back down.
The SwissBorder is also at the Col de Grand St Bernard, bigger than the one we
saw previously, and the home of the monastery where they trained the original
Saint Bernard rescue dogs. We checked out the history of the dogs and saw some
of them, then got back to the real business of the day...
more climbs, more twisties and more Cols.
Through tunnels, past the lakes at Interlaken and onward to Grindelwald, our
destination for the night.
Another TomTom excursion on the local 2 lane highways, to the surprise of
oncoming traffic. We pass the work crews installing the steel netting that holds
the Alps up of the roads.
We cruise into Grindelwald on fumes and into a drizzle. The town is very full.
It is the gateway to the Jungfrau region and all the hikers and climbers of the
highest peaks in Europe, the Eiger, the Monch and the Jungfrau, seem to be in
town. Petra's happy because she also got to shop and bought a new dress.
We find a hotel and get the scoop on the best place to get fondue for dinner.
Boy was it good! What could be better than melted cheese with ham in it, into
which you dip bread and tiny boiled potatoes and onions? Nothing, except a
little wine and a few laughs to go with it. The waitresses got a little
gun-shy of the cameras, though
Can't you just smell that fondue?
