Decatur to South Bend

.

Monday, August 15, 2011

Monday's drive was the shortest so far at about 250 miles, so we left a little later and headed to South Bend, IN, trying to stay off the main freeways. We arrived about noon and checked into a Comfort Suites which was a few minutes from our friends' (Dave and Andrea) house. Dave worked a shorter day and was at home to meet us about noon, so Rob and Doug got out his hose to wash the cars. We ordered some pizza and then went to take a tour of South Bend which included the Studebaker Museum. Rob and Daryl and Dave had been before, but it is a really nice museum and Studebaker was a huge part of South Bend history. Andrea got home as we returned from our tour and we all went for dinner at an "Irish Pub" (#2 for the trip) with a view of Notre Dame and then took a car tour of the campus. We were able to see the Golden Dome (although it was too far away to get a good photo with our camera) and touch-down Jesus. Andrea loves to bake and she had made desert for us to enjoy at their home, so we sat and chatted until 10pm or so, which was pretty late for us travelers.
