Friday Night Cruise Down Woodward Ave

.

Friday, August 19, 2011

We decided to stake our claims on the Boulevard for the Saturday Cruise, the Main Event. From past experience, Tom Nagle and Leonard and Carol had found a triangular grassy area near the Holiday Inn Express to be perfect for the spectator. We agreed on our way back from lunch to cruise down a ways on Woodward, then make a U-turn and end up at the target location, setting up for a couple of hours and then leaving chairs, etc. to mark our spot. (One thing to learn about driving in Michigan is that they don't like left turns at lights, so they set up a turn after the light and you do a U-turn and then can make a right turn at the light. Oh well, it is Michigan!) Doug and Marilyn took a break back at the hotel and the Webers, the Buotes and Caorl's cousins spent a couple of hours looking at the wide variety of cruisers. At dinner time, we left the oldest chairs as markers and went back to the hotel, where we determined that we did not need a large dinner. So we jaywalked through the cruising traffic to Little Daddy's for more chicken for Doug, some flaming Greek dish for Rob and half-size salads for Marilyn and Daryl. Then we jaywalked back, grabbed some of the chairs used for an event at the hotel that day and watched the cars right in front of the hotel until it got too dark to know what we were looking at.
