Carlisle to Wheeling

It was raining as we left the hotel in Mechanicsburg, so we knew that we had made the right decision to leave. We had spent a whole day at Carlisle and seen most everything, so we had no regrets. Our plan was to go south into Maryland and take the scenic highway along the Maryland/Pennsylvania border which then became the West Virginia/Pennsylvania/Ohio border. The ride was smooth and the highway was wide open, not a small scenic route as we had been finding. We headed for a lunch and restroom stop in Morgantown, WV. However, Morgantown had no "local color" restaurants that we could find after cruising through town and neither did the adjoining town, so we ended up at the Texas Roadhouse, and had one of our worst lunches of the trip. Oh well... Back on the road, we finally got on some smaller scenic roads and came into Wheeling from the south. It looked like an interesting town, with lots of old buildings and homes. The Hampton Inn was nice and seemed to cater to a business crowd who stayed longer than one night as they had microwavable food, wine, and other necessities to make a meal if you did not want to eat out, for sale in the downstairs "store." Our dinner decision narrowed down to the place across the street or the place at the other side of the parking lot, so we ate at Bob Evans, a first for Doug and Marilyn, and just across the parking lot.
