Wheeling to Cincinnati

At first we decided to just make a bee-line for Cincinnati, but after a while the plans changed to scenic routes and smaller roads. We left the freeway just outside Zanesville, OH, where Rob and Daryl had often been with the VRCC motorcycle group. Then we bore south to Chillicothe on winding roads among prosperous farms and lovely homes. From Chillicothe we continued south to Lancaster, a town full of wonderful buildings and homes and found a place for the morning stop, by looking for somewhere with cars outside that wasn't a church. We ended up at the Four Reasons Bakery and Deli and had good coffee and yummy cinnamon rolls. When we got close to Cincinnati, we jumped on the 275 which circles the town and headed to a Holiday Inn where Rob and Daryl stay on their visits to family. It is the only game in town on the west side of Cincinnati. Doug and Marilyn opted to relax at the hotel rather than go to sightsee, so Rob and Daryl headed out to see cousin Claire and Aunt So. We went to Claire's house, less than 5 minutes up the same road as the hotel is on, and spent our usual time drinking margaritas and eating cheese and crackers. This arrangement allows us the time to discuss things that haven't been covered during e-mails or to work out problems. We then went for a short visit with Aunt So, who will be 96 on September 12. Unfortunately, she has lost her eyesight due to macular degeneration and it makes it more difficult for her to hear a conversation in a group. She also misses the ability to read and watch TV. Her health is slowly degenerating as well and mornings are difficult times. After our visits, we went back to the hotel and then all met at Skyline Chili so Doug could check another item off his list, chili on spaghetti. Even Claire, who is a vegetarian, found something to eat, with beans and rice. Everything on the menu was finished with a layer of chili and shredded cheese, even Daryl's Southwestern Chicken Salad. After dinner, Doug and Marilyn went to the hotel and Rob and Daryl went to visit with Claire some more.
