Cincinnati to Kansas City

.

Monday and Tuesday, August 29-30, 2011

The original plan was to spend two nights/one day in Kansas City on the way home, but in the morning Doug and Marilyn decided to head straight home. They had been gracious about spending time with our friends and family during the trip, but were eager to get back. We decided to continue as planned as we hadn't seen the Daltons for a while. So we got on the 70 West and drove straight through Indiana and Missouri, ending up at the same Aloft hotel we had used on the way East. During the two week time since we had been there, school had started and so had a construction project of remodeling the basement which is necessary in a family with 4 children during the winter months. It was homework time when we arrived at Kay and David's and Kay was ferrying kids around to various sports events. David opened a bottle of wine and talked about all of his business trips and new ideas and deals and his problem issues. When Kay got back, she finished her version of Spaghetti and Meatballs and Sausage and Steak with a Caesar salad and cheese bread on the side. Everyone sat down to dinner at the same table and chowed down. The next day we went with the flow, arriving at their house mid-morning and making a pot of coffee, then after Kay dashed off a client proposal, we four adults got in the car and took David to get a haircut, while Kay, Rob and Daryl did a cheese tasting at Better Cheddar and had a light lunch. In the afternoon, Rob washed the car and we hung around to talk after Rob gave the two youngest boys a thrill ride in the Corvette.  They (Joey and Teddy) had been too young (and too short to see over the dash) the last time we were there with the ZR1.  Then we headed back to the hotel to shower and change before dinner with Kay and David and David and Merrie (Kay's brother and his wife).  The six of us have a lot of laughs when we can get together. It isn't to easy to arrange, first because we don't live there and second because with so many kids and businesses to run, their schedules are jam-packed. After dinner, we headed back to the hotel to get ready to leave for home the next day.
